Wood Whistle Plans
A whistle is basically a mechanism which creates a whistling sound when air or steam is forced through it. Our whistles are made completely from wood with just a dab of glue and we suggest using air (not steam) from your lungs. If you've never made one before try our "Basic Whistle Plans" for free. They are in Adobe Acrobat format so they are compatible with any computer system. Just download the file with the link below and print the plans on any inkjet or similar printer.
Our "Train Whistle" is the most popular of all our plans. My Dad designed it many years ago and we've been selling the plans in paper form for a long time. You may have seen ads in some of your wood magazines or perhaps even the trains being sold at a local craft fair.
There are 2 whistles inside the train body which sound in different tones when you blow into the hole. The 2 tone sound gives it that real train whistle!
The whistle in the base of the fire engine has a slide which, when moved back and forth by a handle underneath the engine, changes the length of the whistle cavity. This, of course, changes the tone of the whistle up and down making it sound like a siren.
